PowerWorker Engage provides a guided process to help fundraising teams: - identify and qualify a potential Major Gift; - plan and record cultivation activities; - capture an ask or proposal; - record the supporter’s response; - manage a verbal commitment or pledge; - close the opportunity when the outcome is known. Each opportunity is managed separately, allowing more than one prospective gift to be recorded for the same supporter. The specification explicitly supports multiple opportunities for a supporter and an independent process for each opportunity. ### Create a Major Gift opportunity 1. In the navigation pane, select **Development**. 2. Under **Prospecting**, select **Opportunities**. 3. Select **New**. 4. Enter the opportunity name and select the **Potential Donor**. 5. Set **Opportunity Type** to **Major Gift**. 6. Complete the available opportunity details, and then select **Save**. Users can create an opportunity from the Opportunities view, complete the required fields and save the record. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(823).png) ### Work through the Major Gift stages The Major Gift process appears at the top of the opportunity. It helps users see the current stage and the next step in progressing the gift. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(824).png) #### Identify and qualify the opportunity Record the potential donor, the source of the opportunity and the available qualification information. If LAI or RFM scores are available for the supporter, they can also be viewed from the opportunity. Progress qualified opportunities to the Cultivate stage. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(825).png) #### Cultivate the relationship Record key engagement information, including contact dates, preferred engagement approach and planned next actions. Use this information to coordinate relationship-building activities before making a formal ask. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(826).png) #### Record the ask and response Use the Ask/Proposal stage to record: - the amount requested; - the ask date; - the status of the ask; - the supporter’s response amount, where applicable; - a reason when the ask is declined. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(827).png) #### Record a verbal commitment or pledge When the supporter informally agrees to give, record the verbal commitment date and update the forecast information for the opportunity. You can also record the intended purpose of the gift and link the opportunity to a campaign. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7abff6c0-4eeb-4bb0-a6a4-8718bf640435/Images/Documentation/image(828).png) ### Close the opportunity Close the opportunity as **Won** when the gift reaches a confirmed outcome. Close the opportunity as **Lost** if the gift will not proceed. Enter a close reason so the outcome is clear. An opportunity can be closed as Lost from any active stage. Won and Lost are captured through the close action rather than being displayed as separate stages.
