What are Dimensions
Dimensions are a powerful tool used to categorize and analyse financial data. They act as markers that can be assigned to entries, such as transactions, to group them by various characteristics like departments, projects, regions, or product. However, D365 BC is limited in that dimensions must be manually created and linked to the master data record.
What does Dimension Manager do?
vBulk Dimension Manager addresses this manual inefficiency by introducing automatic creation and attachment of dimensions to the master record, enabling users to analyse financial reports based on dimensions derived from key tables.
Dimension Manager will create a new Dimension Value Code for the Customer Dimension and assign it to the newly created Customer record. Recreate Dimension Values can be used to refresh the Dimension Value codes in scenarios where there is change of name for the Customer record.
Dimension Manager creates a mirror reflection from system entities into financial dimensions. It adds the ability to report on key entities directly from the General Ledger.
Note
If a master record is deleted, the Dimension Value code will also be deleted, but only if it hasnāt been used in a Dimension Set Entry. If the code is in use, D365 Business Central will mark it as Blocked instead.
Setup
vBulk Dimension Manager provides an Assisted Setup flow (āSet up Bulk Dimensionsā) that guides detailed setup steps, including:
Open Assisted Setup (Alt + Q)
Search āDimensionā and launch Set up Bulk Dimensions
Create a mapping between Table and Dimension Code (dimension code must pre-exist)
Select Code/No. and Name/Description fields for value code/value name generation
Enable Assign Default Dimension to auto-assign the new dimension value to the master record
