Navigating vGroup Scheduler

Summary

The vGroup Scheduler is a Power Apps Component Framework (PCF) custom control designed for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service. It provides an advanced resource scheduling interface that enables users to efficiently search, filter, and book bookable resources against requirement groups and work orders.

This control enhances the standard Dynamics 365 Field Service scheduling capabilities by providing a sophisticated resource explorer interface with advanced filtering, availability checking, and multi-resource booking capabilities.

This control helps and supports the dispatcher/scheduler needs around the Group Scheduling primarily in the areas mentioned below –

  1. Assisted Scheduling for a Single Requirement Group with multiple Requirements

  2. Assisted Scheduling for a Single Requirement Group across Multiple Days

  3. Assisted Scheduling for Multi Requirement Groups across different Work Orders

  4. Assisted Scheduling for Multi Requirements across different Work Orders

Basic Understanding of the Core elements for vGroup Scheduler

The main interface is divided into four primary sections:

  1. Filters Panel (Left)
    Provides comprehensive filtering capabilities. Some of the crucial filters as mentioned below:

  • Resource Type Filter: Filter by Generic, Contact, User, Equipment, Account, Crew

  • Organization Units: Filter by organizational hierarchy

  • Territories: Geographic territory filtering

  • Resource Categories: Filter by skill categories

  • Characteristics: Filter by specific skills/characteristics with rating values

  • Teams: Filter by team membership

  • Date/Time Range: Start and end date search parameters

  • Promised Time Range: Filter by time-from-promised and time-to-promised

  • Preferred/Restricted Resources: Resource preference filtering

  • Travel Radius: Geographic proximity filtering with configurable radius and units

  • Custom Filters: Dynamic custom field filters

  • Custom Lookup: Additional lookup-based filtering

  1. Header Details (Top)
    Displays requirement group context information:

  • Work Order Name

  • Start/Finish Times

  • Duration/Remaining Duration

  • Territory

  1. Timeslot Selection (Center-Left)
    Displays Timeslot Selection area:

  • Displays available time slots based on search criteria

  • Shows resource availability for each time slot

  • Visual indicators for availability status

  • Interactive selection of time slots

  1. Resource List (Center-Right)
    Displays Resource Search Results for selection:

  • Displays filtered bookable resources

  • Shows resource details (name, type, categories, characteristics)

  • Custom column support for additional attributes

  • Travel Time

  1. Group Selection Panel (Right)
    Displays selected Resources and allows updates to be made:

  • Collapsible panel for managing selected resources

  • Drag-and-drop interface for resource assignment

  • Resource requirement matching

  • Next/Submit workflow controls

  1. Related Bookings (Bottom)
    Displays related bookings

  • Displays bookings created against the selected requirements group

  • Displays bookings created for the Multi-Day booking scenarios

  1. Summary and Booking Creation
    Displays the summary of the resources chosen and booking method as a pre-screen before the bulk bookings get created in the system

  • Displays the resources chosen and booking method

  • Acts as a review screen prior to the creation of bulk bookings against the requirements
